Twitch Overlay

Twitch Overlay
& Animation

One of the first things my partner Kevin Budnik and I bonded over when we started dating was video games. They regularly stream video games on Twitch, and ever since we decided we were moving in together, we started talking about streaming one of my favorite childhood games Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak together once we moved. And recently we successfully completed the move! For this momentous occasion, I dusted off my animation and pixel art skills to whip up a custom Hamtaro-themed Twitch overlay for OBS as well as a stream break animation.

For the border style on the overlay, I referenced and emulated the game’s UI styling for dialogue boxes. I also recreated the game’s signature ging-ham (get it?!) pattern for the background of the overlay. I then manipulated ripped character portraits from the game to create the hamster versions of myself and Kevin.

The stream break animation started as static screenshot from the highest resolution gameplay footage I could find. With that base, I manipulated the flowers, the hamster’s eyes, and the water to create a frame by frame animation. I then brought it into After Effects to add additional movement with the clouds and text.

If you or someone you know would like your very own custom Twitch overlay or animation, feel free to contact me to chat about commissioning one!
