Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited (NEIL) is a mutual insurance company that insures all nuclear power plants in the United States, as well as some plants internationally. NEIL wanted to visually update and update both their public-facing site as well as their authenticated secure site while also replatforming to Kentico. The primary goal of these redesigns was to make navigating much simpler for their users as well as modernize the look and feel of the sites to emphasize NEIL’s dedication to security and forward thinking.
NEIL Public Site
The public site’s primary users are nuclear power plant operators and/or NEIL business partners. For the redesign, NEIL wanted to be able to better communicate who the company is, what events are taking place, and attract more potential employees. They also wanted to make the look and feel of the site come across as more professional and modern than their current site design to increase engagement.
Secure Site
NEIL’s secure member portal allows users to view and manage policies, claims, reported events, and other financial information for their power plants. Users can view information for just a single plant or for multiple plants depending on the size of their organization and their user privileges on the secure site.
The biggest design challenge for this site was to keep the copious and variable amount of information being served to the user as easy to digest as possible while still maintaining the modern and clean look that was established in the public site. By relying heavily on distinct type hierarchy and color-block backgrounds, we were able to create clear delineation between sections and infuse the NEIL branding into these information heavy pages without sacrificing usability.
